Question 1

What does a birth doula do?

Accepted Answer

A birth doula provides continuous emotional, physical, and informational support before, during, and after labor. Unlike medical staff, a doula stays with you the entire time, helping reduce fear, support oxytocin, and advocate for your birth preferences.

Question 2

How much does a doula cost in Seattle?

Accepted Answer

Birth doula fees in the Seattle and Eastside area typically range from $1,500 to $4,500 depending on experience and services. Liza Hameza of Oxytocin World serves Snoqualmie, Issaquah, and greater Seattle — contact her for current availability and rates.

Question 3

Do I need a doula if I'm having a hospital birth?

Accepted Answer

Yes — research shows continuous doula support reduces cesarean rates by about 26% even in hospital settings. Hospital nurses shift-change; your doula stays with you the entire labor.
